This is written based on a Hindi Series - Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon - Watch it on Star Plus Monday to Friday 8pm
He had known the minute he had picked up the phone, her silence had a tingle that had told him she was there on the other side. Then she had cut the call. And called again. He had waited wanting to ignore the need to hear her voice, may be someone else will pick up but no one did and so he picked it up again. Silence, did it sometimes speak louder than words? Then she cut the call again. Now getting annoyed at her behavior, but then recalled he had done the same thing not too far back. He scowled and when the phone rang again, he knew it would, he picked it up and did not wait for her to speak. "Agar kuch bolna nahi hai toh mujhe phone karke mera time kyon waste kar rahi ho Khushi Kumari Gupta?"
But he felt as if a wave of breeze blew over him when he heard her voice. He listened to her as she rattled on about Lavanya and he lost it again. This time he cut the call. Why? because she riled him. Because he did not want to hear about Lavanya and what Khushi had made her do.
He was almost thankful that she had changed Lavanya to the extent she had. He was free, free to… and stopped his thoughts. What the hell am i thinking? Then he shrugged the thoughts and got back to his work. But things were too quiet. He had gotten used to her jangles in the house, whether it was her payal or other tingling accesories or even her voice echoing around the voice. Restless he went to the study to sit and work there, the bedroom had her around him. In his cupboard, in his bathroom and he had looked at the bed wondering when will she be there?
That is when he had given up, trying to stay sane in his own room was becoming difficult and then she had come. He for the first time did not know she was around, her presence he did not feel. Strange? But it did seem as if her thoughts had conjured her up, right in front of him.
She had then given him some sorry letter and he knew it was not Lavanya's effort or was he trying to say something else to her. That he was not interested in Lavanya, he was interested in …. No don't go there, he told his wayward thoughts. He to hide his inner confusion had again given her some snide remarks on her only coming to take money. Ah! hurt did it that she did not come to see me? But then I was the one who had told her to get out of my life. What was happening to me? He had then told her some more choice words about money and to not interfere in his life. Who did she think she was anyway? She had said, "Chaliye lavanya ji ko wapis laate hain."
"Kyon taaki tum yahan wapis aa sako, agar paise hi kamane hain toh aisa kyon nahi karti … mein tumhein paise deta hoon, reh lo idhar, meri live in bankar… ghar mein sab toh tumhein pasand hi karte hain. Tum apni selflessness dikhana chahti ho na Nani ko, Di ko. Ban jao meri… Live in. Mein paise doonga." He had taunted.
And she had raised her hand to hit him. He had caught hold of her wrist and pulled her closer and gritted through his teeth "Mujh par haath uthane ki koshish bhi mat karna."
"Aap badtamizzi kar rahe hain, toh kya hum chup chap sun le, Mr Arnav Singh Raizada? Aap apni hadien par kar rahe hain. Aur hamein pata hai kaise, ek badtameez aadmi ko kaise theek karte hai." She squirmed in his hold but did not cower down. She had tears in his eyes but she would let them fall. He was right they were wasted on him. He was the rudest, crudest, cruelest man she had ever had the misfortune of meeting.
"Haddh toh meine abhi paar nahi ki hai, Miss Khushi Kumari Gupta," He threatened and with that he pulled her in the circle of his arms trapping her between his arm and chest. One arm behind her held firmly and the other stuck between them. He leaned closer and glared into her eyes that had tears brimming waiting to spill over. He looked at them and then something happened to him. All rage left him, all fight turned to air. He put his lips to the corner of her eye drinking the tears that had just spilled over. Then repeated the movement for the other eye. Her eyes closed and the dam burst. Her lips parted as a sob escaped her and he was enthralled. He trailed his lips to follow the path tears had taken down her cheek and stopped at the corner of the lips where they had meandered. He had paused for a second but it seemed like an eternity to him as he slowly licked the salt at the corner of her lips and then in one swift movement covered her lips in a kiss that was urgent, as if he did not kiss her, he would die.
He then as suddenly let her go, pushing her away from him and said, "Please chali jaao yahan se, iss se pehle ki mein kuch aur karoon, chali jao."
Khushi stood rooted to the spot, not knowing for a few seconds what had just happened. She then turned and went down the stairs and to the main door, requesting devi maiyya to not have anyone come in the way and she opened the door to find Shyam on the other side.
Arnav ran his hands in his hair in frustration as he stood there wondering what had just happened? He marched to his room and banged his fist on the wall in frustration. That Khushi always got the better of me, he cursed. Why had he kissed her? Why did he feel these things.
The rest of the evening went in red haze as he refused to talk to anyone, eat or even go downstairs. He lay on his bed sleep eluding him as the scene played in his mind over and over again. He sat up suddenly realising why he could not tell Lavanya the reason to not marry her. It was her. The reason was her all the time.
Take me to your heart - Michael learns to rock
Hiding from the rain and snow
Trying to forget but I won't let go
Looking at a crowded street
Listening to my own heart beat
So many people all around the world
Tell me where do I find someone like you girl
(Chorus)
Take me to your heart take me to your soul
Give me your hand before I'm old
Show me what love is - haven't got a clue
Show me that wonders can be true
They say nothing lasts forever
We're only here today
Love is now or never
Bring me far away
Take me to your heart take me to your soul
Give me your hand and hold me
Show me what love is - be my guiding star
It's easy take me to your heart
Standing on a mountain high
Looking at the moon through a clear blue sky
I should go and see some friends
But they don't really comprehend
Don't need too much talking without saying anything
All I need is someone who makes me wanna sing
(Chorus)
